About the Role

An established private healthcare provider in the Norwich is seeking a Therapeutic Radiographer Superintendent to lead a specialist team within its radiotherapy service. This is a senior-level opportunity for a radiographer with advanced clinical knowledge, strong leadership capabilities and a passion for service development and patient-centred care.

You’ll oversee a designated treatment area, manage staff performance, drive technical excellence, and contribute to the strategic growth of the department. This role is structured around four key pillars of advanced practice: expert clinical care, leadership, education and service development.

Key Responsibilities

Expert Clinical Practice

  • Act as a technical lead for complex treatment setups and troubleshooting across pre-treatment and linear accelerator areas.

  • Review referrals to ensure protocol compliance and participate in MDTs and patient assessment clinics.

  • Lead the development and implementation of new treatment techniques and technologies.

  • Oversee QA procedures including portal imaging, in vivo dosimetry, fault reporting and equipment readiness.

  • Provide expert advice to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals, ensuring clarity and empathy in all communications.

  • Ensure safe and effective handling of equipment and patients, requiring excellent psychomotor skills, spatial awareness and physical stamina.

  • Maintain dignity and respect for patients undergoing distressing treatments, including care involving bodily fluids and permanent skin marking procedures.

  • Record and annotate treatment summaries and radiotherapy data sets accurately and promptly.

  • Participate in the emergency on-call rota and manage fluctuating workloads in a high-pressure clinical environment.

Professional Leadership & Consultancy

  • Lead daily operations of your designated area, including staff scheduling, QA procedures and patient throughput.

  • Manage staff performance, including sickness, leave and overtime records.

  • Conduct appraisals, support performance reviews and identify training needs.

  • Contribute to departmental quality standards and ISO 9000 compliance.

  • Act as a Quality Assurance Auditor when trained, conducting audits and improving service standards.

  • Foster a positive working environment through effective communication, empathy and team motivation.

  • Collaborate closely with other team managers and advanced radiographers to ensure continuity and consistency in care.

  • Assist in recruitment, shortlisting, and interviewing of new staff.

  • Coordinate rotas with pre-treatment managers to ensure appropriate skill mix and patient care coverage.

Education, Training & Development

  • Deliver clinical education and supervision to students, apprentices and junior staff.

  • Ensure safe and competent use of complex radiotherapy equipment across the team.

  • Promote CPD and support staff in achieving professional development goals.

  • Ensure compliance with radiation protection, health and safety and emergency procedures.

  • Contribute to policy development and ensure adherence to departmental protocols.

  • Organise training for new staff and maintain up-to-date expertise across treatment machines.

Practice & Service Development, Research & Evaluation

  • Engage in research, audit, and service evaluation to improve evidence-based practice.

  • Identify areas for innovation and lead projects that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

  • Participate in national and local clinical trials and protocols.

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement solutions to mitigate clinical and operational risks.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • Diploma or BSc in Radiotherapy/Oncology Technology

  • HCPC registration (unrestricted)

  • PGCert or PGDip in Oncology/Radiotherapy (desirable)

Experience

  • Significant post-graduate clinical experience

  • Previous experience in a senior radiographer role

  • Strong working knowledge of linear accelerators

  • Experience in CT planning, dosimetry, brachytherapy and review clinics (desirable)
