In this dynamic role, you will provide specialist assessments and interventions across a diverse inpatient caseload. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing function, independence and quality of life for patients recovering from complex medical, orthopaedic and neurological conditions.
Responsibilities
Take professional responsibility for a varied, specialised caseload, managing time and clinical priorities effectively
Conduct comprehensive therapy assessments considering diagnosis, disease stage, cognition, functional ability and psychosocial needs
Use advanced clinical reasoning to determine and implement tailored treatment plans
Provide expert therapeutic advice to patients, carers, and MDT colleagues based on evidence-based practice
Communicate highly sensitive and complex information with clarity, empathy and professionalism
Participate actively in MDT meetings, ward rounds, discharge planning and case discussions
Develop clear, evidence‑based patient resources
Ensure informed consent and maintain high‑quality patient documentation
Contribute to service audits, research and quality improvement initiatives
Train others in the safe and effective use of occupational therapy equipment
Support service development, efficiency and best practice across the OT team
Requirements
Essential
BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy or equivalent
Current HCPC registration
Evidence of ongoing post‑graduate CPD
Significant experience within acute inpatient settings
Experience across multiple specialties including stroke rehab, orthopaedics and general medicine
Strong assessment, clinical reasoning, and treatment planning skills
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Excellent communication and behaviour‑change skills
Ability to manage complex caseloads safely and efficiently
Desirable
Membership of specialist OT interest groups
Experience in outpatient OT
Experience with complex patients and varied therapeutic approaches
Research/audit experience
Previous experience at Band 6 level
Experience teaching peers and the MDT
