Responsibilities

  • Prepare theatres, equipment, and instruments, anticipating the needs of surgeons and anaesthetists

  • Maintain a sterile environment and perform precise surgical counts (instruments, swabs, sharps)

  • Complete all mandatory surgical checks in line with theatre policy, ensuring full documentation

  • Scrub for plastic surgery and a range of elective surgical specialties

  • Communicate clearly and confidently with surgeons, anaesthetists and recovery teams

  • Act as a patient advocate, raising or escalating any concerns

  • Contribute to stock management, infection control, theatre audits and efficiency improvements

  • Support the team in maintaining CQC compliance and upholding best practice

Requirements
Essential
  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration

  • Post‑registration theatre/perioperative qualification or equivalent experience

  • Competent in scrubbing for multiple specialties (plastic surgery highly desirable)

  • ILS trained

  • Strong understanding of CQC standards and perioperative safety

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and decision‑making skills

  • Ability to complete accurate surgical counts and high‑quality documentation

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)

  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable
  • Experience in plastic/cosmetic surgery

  • Previous independent sector experience

  • Mentorship or teaching experience
