Band 7 Senior Physiotherapist specialising in Cancer Rehabilitation, based in London. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK’s largest private hospitals, working in the Physiotherapy Department, reporting to the Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Cancer Services and accountable to the Director of Clinical Services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working within the CSP guidelines for good practice and provide a comprehensive 7-day physiotherapy service in cancer services across inpatients and outpatients. They will support with the management of specialist cancer rehabilitation and lymphoedema treatment.

Duties:

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of oncology and neuro-oncology patients and use advanced clinical reasoning skills in the formulation of treatment plans to manage patients’ symptoms and support their rehabilitation in both the inpatient and outpatient settings

  • Utilise highly developed therapeutic handling skills to support the symptom management and rehabilitation of patients, assess the impact of presenting condition on all aspects of patient’s life (i.e., activities of daily living, community participation, vocation etc.) and determine appropriate management plans, including onward referral as appropriate

  • Create and implement rehabilitation programmes with patients, families and carers including education, compensatory and restorative strategies

  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment

  • Keep accurate, legible records of patient care in line with service guidelines and communicate effectively both verbally and non-verbally with patients and their carers to maximise rehabilitation potential (this includes working with patients who have complex communication problems such as dysphasia, memory problems, hearing/visual problems, and cognitive problems)

  • Plan the effective daily management of a caseload of patients including responding to urgent referrals and occasionally unpredictable work patterns

  • Objectively assess caseload and provide clear, constructive feedback to the wider physiotherapy team in a manner most likely to maintain and improve performance

  • Prioritise clinical work and balance other professional activities in accordance with the departmental requirements

  • Represent the physiotherapy service and/or individual patients in the multi-disciplinary service, and integrate physiotherapy treatments into the treatment programme

  • Manage potentially stressful, upsetting, or emotional situations in an empathetic manner including but not limited to terminal care

  • Work with the physiotherapy team to provide an efficient and effective service, and to be involved in the proposal/development and implementation of departmental policies and annual business plan

  • Ensure that all equipment defects, accidents, and complaints are reported to your line manager and the physiotherapy manager immediately to ensure that appropriate action may be taken in line with clinic Health and Safety policies

  • Be responsible for the maintenance and development of own competency to practice and professional registration, taking responsibility for ensuring own continuing professional development by attendance at postgraduate training courses and actively support the learning needs of peers, students, and the wider multi-professional team

  • Participate in the appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for identifying, implementing, and achieving development needs and recommended actions for performance review and development plan

  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and in-service training, post graduate lectures and courses to share this knowledge with peers and undertake research as agreed with the team lead

Skills & Experience:

  • Able to demonstrate high levels of communication skills to coach, mediate, negotiate, present and train

  • Supervisory, highly developed organisational, time management and IT skills

  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

  • Excellent presentation, demonstrate a forward looking and proactive approach

  • Work effectively within a team environment and use initiative

  • To be personally and professionally responsible, have driven and enthusiasm for clinical excellence and clinical development

  • Ability to work with change, physically fit for all aspects of the post and able to participate in on-call work

  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy

  • HCPC registered

  • Evidence of CPD

  • Lymphoedema treatment qualification

  • MCSP

  • Proven experience of working as band 6 physiotherapist with experience in rehabilitation

  • Experience in lymphoedema management

  • Experience of quality issues and audit

  • Previous participation in on-call working
