If so, our client is recruiting for a Pre-Assessment Staff Nurse to join a well renowned, established, leading organisation. Established in 1899, they are an independent charitable hospital, located within London’s Harley Street medical district. This is an incredible opportunity to join their growing team.

Duties:

  • Assist with the daily requirements of the pre assessment service ensuring safe and efficient care.

  • Develop skills in comprehensive individualised assessment. Develop and maintain a progressive attitude towards patient care, ensuring all patients are prepared physically and psychologically for surgery, understand the purpose of their operation and are ready to proceed.

  • Assess, plan, implement and audit holistic, high quality individualised care which respects the personal dignity and beliefs of the patient.

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures and assist in developing protocol and guidelines relevant to the pre assessment clinic.

  • Research and audit practice relevant to the field of pre assessment.

  • Ensure the best use of all resources to achieve a safe and efficient service.

  • Effectively communicate with all Wards and Departments within the Hospital.

  • Be aware of and comply with the EC directives, NMC code, NICE guidance and recommendations from the Department of Health.

  • Communicate with other Departments about any relevant changes and information, which could impact on the implementation of patient care.

  • To participate in designated Committees/ Working Parties within the Hospital as required.

  • To comply with all Hospital policies and procedures including, but not limited to Health and Safety at Work, Fire Regulations, C.O.S.H.H, Risk Assessment, Equipment and Infection Control.

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner with specialist skills, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care within protocols.

  • To undertake a nursing assessment, obtaining a detailed past medical history and ordering of appropriate clinical investigations.

  • Undertake a risk assessment for the patient anaesthetically and surgically.

  • To act as the named nurse to all patients within the pre assessment service

  • To undertake a nursing assessment, obtaining a detailed past medical history and ordering appropriate clinical investigations.

  • Once assessed by ‘phone, to identify patients at risk and invite for assessment in person, perform investigations and referrals as necessary.

  • Implement intervention based on the results of the assessment and investigations.

  • Refer for MRSA screening according to infection control policy.

  • Identify cultural requirements, communication and other special needs.

  • Obtain further specialist advice as required.

  • Undertake a role in health promotion giving advice on weight loss and cessation of smoking.

  • Advise patients of their pre-operative medication requirements.

  • Maintain accurate patient records, completing documentation to ensure seamless multidisciplinary communication.

  • Your working hours will be 37.5 hours a week – 12 hours a day.
