  • Carry out advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and or referral of a diverse range of children requiring Outpatient Review.

  • Provide expert advice and support to Urgent care and St Joseph’s Ward in the care of elective paediatric surgical and medical admissions.

  • Recognise sick children and take appropriate emergency action.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate strategies to foster involvement and engagement with patient/ service user groups to guide organisational learning and service development.

  • Role model the maintenance of patient advocacy in all situations.

  • Build alliances across the organisation to ensure that services and practices meet patient/ service user needs.

  • To use National, Community/ Public Health assessment information and guidelines, when evaluating patient’s needs, initiating referrals, co-ordinating care and programme management.

  • Differentiate normal physical findings and/ or health practices from those findings of child abuse and /or neglect and take appropriate action to safeguard children.

  • Safely and competently practice within agreed evidence-based guidelines and pathways.

  • Order, undertake and interpret investigations as required, e.g X-Rays, blood tests, urine and swabs. Promote the involvement of children, young people and families with health-related activities that contribute to improvement of services.

  • Integrate national priorities for safety into organisational practices, drawing on standards and best practice evidence to guide organisational decision making.

  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all work undertaken and to practice at an advanced level of autonomy and accountability within Trust policies and NMC codes of Conduct.

  • Undertake Independent Prescribing as part of clinical role and maintain prescribing competence as per Trust Non-Medical Prescribing Guideline.


  • Have an in depth understanding of children’s and parental rights and responsibilities and be able to provide advice and act as an advocate as needed.
