Our client in Orpington is looking for a Lead scrub practitioner to take charge of their theatre department. You will be assisting with the management of their 3 state of the art theatres.

Your role will be to plan the specialist service for both inpatients and outpatients. Promoting and maintaining high professional standard of nursing; meeting the needs of patients in all aspects.  To take the lead across specialist services in agreement with Executive Directors and Directors of Clinical services on initiatives to develop and modernise effective patient centred pathways from diagnosis to discharge.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the team to deliver care that helps improve the health of the individual and wider community.

  • Support the team in demonstrating compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity.

  • Develop own competence to deliver effective care and treatments through improving clinical/technical knowledge / skill, and expertise. 

  • Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient.

  • Act as an advocate for safeguarding patients; demonstrate courage to speak up when there are concerns about care. 

  • Demonstrate commitment to improving care and the patient experience.  

  • To provide a high-profile commitment to professional development, teaching and education for all levels of nursing staff in the hospitals.

  • The post-holder will actively participate in the hospitals 24-hour speciality helpline rota.

  • To participate in MDT and ensure all patients are discussed to maintain rigorous health and safety standards to ensure all procedures at ward and unit level are consistent with set policies.  Adhering to national guidelines, corporate and hospital protocols.

  • To ensure a robust communication system is in place to disseminate information to essential staff and outside agencies.

  • To ensure all patients attending the hospitals receive high quality care.

  • To deal with any verbal or written complaints in a timely manner, acting as required to address any deficiencies highlighted.

  • To act as role model to staff by participating in clinical procedures and demonstrating a high level of knowledge and competence in the delivery of nursing care. To include: Administration of specialist medication as required. Administration / management of other supportive therapies.

  • To participate in nursing/clinical audit to ensure development of a quality service is achieved.

  • To maintain links with specialist Network and other NHS Trusts to raise hospital profile and ensure clinical practice and patient information mirrors national and locally agreed guidance.

  • To be responsible for own development, regularly updating own knowledge and communicating to team members.

  • To participate in the education programme for the hospital – this will include organisation of study days as required, in liaison with the Practice Development and Training Departments.

  • To liaise with team leaders of non-clinical staff in the hospital regarding care of specialist patient’s needs.  This includes communicating information on personal health and safety.

  • Studies Registered general nurse level 1. 

  • Experience working within a team model of nursing.  

  • Previous experience working within the acute healthcare sector. 

  • 18 months post registration experience.

  • Experience of customer care,

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 / Diploma / BSc in Nursing. 

  • Evidence of relevant clinical professional development preferably evidenced by certification RN with valid NMC Registration.

  • Excellent clinical applied knowledge which is evidenced based and takes account of national best practice standards. 

  • Basic workload / shift management skills.

  • Mentorship Qualification (ENB 998 or equivalent). Up-to-date knowledge in area of practice. Awareness of NMC Code of Accountability.

  • Awareness of NMC Standards for specialist education and practice.

  • Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.

  • Proficient in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems. including interacting with challenging customers and situations.
