Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues to support a cohesive team and achievement of team objectives.
  • Demonstrate through a holistic approach to care and day to day clinical issues, an understanding of evidence-based practice.
  • To liaise with Surgeons regarding procedures and requirements.
  • To assist/scrub with various types of cosmetic surgical procedures.
  • To assist in pre-operative care of the patient.
  • To be responsible for clinical stock control and ordering.
  • Liaison with outside suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Participate in the Out of hours on call rota.
  • Follow up care and advice are provided to patients.
  • Patient safety is maintained as a key priority, and in line with CQC requirements.
  • A high standard of professionalism and standards is always maintained.
  • Liaise with the Theatre Co-ordinator.

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered ODP with Outpatient and Pre-Assessment experience
  • Cosmetic/ Aesthetics experience.
  • Operating theatre experience

Our client in Orpington is looking for a Lead scrub practitioner to take charge of their theatre department. You will be assisting with the management of their 3 state of the art theatres.

Your role will be to plan the specialist service for both inpatients and outpatients. Promoting and maintaining high professional standard of nursing; meeting the needs of patients in all aspects.  To take the lead across specialist services in agreement with Executive Directors and Directors of Clinical services on initiatives to develop and modernise effective patient centred pathways from diagnosis to discharge.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the team to deliver care that helps improve the health of the individual and wider community.

  • Support the team in demonstrating compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity.

  • Develop own competence to deliver effective care and treatments through improving clinical/technical knowledge / skill, and expertise. 

  • Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient.

  • Act as an advocate for safeguarding patients; demonstrate courage to speak up when there are concerns about care. 

  • Demonstrate commitment to improving care and the patient experience.  

  • To provide a high-profile commitment to professional development, teaching and education for all levels of nursing staff in the hospitals.

  • The post-holder will actively participate in the hospitals 24-hour speciality helpline rota.

  • To participate in MDT and ensure all patients are discussed to maintain rigorous health and safety standards to ensure all procedures at ward and unit level are consistent with set policies.  Adhering to national guidelines, corporate and hospital protocols.

  • To ensure a robust communication system is in place to disseminate information to essential staff and outside agencies.

  • To ensure all patients attending the hospitals receive high quality care.

  • To deal with any verbal or written complaints in a timely manner, acting as required to address any deficiencies highlighted.

  • To act as role model to staff by participating in clinical procedures and demonstrating a high level of knowledge and competence in the delivery of nursing care. To include: Administration of specialist medication as required. Administration / management of other supportive therapies.

  • To participate in nursing/clinical audit to ensure development of a quality service is achieved.

  • To maintain links with specialist Network and other NHS Trusts to raise hospital profile and ensure clinical practice and patient information mirrors national and locally agreed guidance.

  • To be responsible for own development, regularly updating own knowledge and communicating to team members.

  • To participate in the education programme for the hospital – this will include organisation of study days as required, in liaison with the Practice Development and Training Departments.

  • To liaise with team leaders of non-clinical staff in the hospital regarding care of specialist patient’s needs.  This includes communicating information on personal health and safety.

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 / Diploma / BSc in Nursing. 

  • Evidence of relevant clinical professional development preferably evidenced by certification RN with valid NMC Registration.

  • Excellent clinical applied knowledge which is evidenced based and takes account of national best practice standards. 

  • Basic workload / shift management skills.

  • Mentorship Qualification (ENB 998 or equivalent). Up-to-date knowledge in area of practice. Awareness of NMC Code of Accountability.

  • Awareness of NMC Standards for specialist education and practice.

  • Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.

  • Proficient in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems. including interacting with challenging customers and situations.

Would you like to work in a leading private Hospital which offers the highest standards of clinical and personal care across a multitude of specialities for private patients, insured patients and patients referred through the NHS?  Set in pleasant grounds at Colman Hill, which is conveniently located on the outskirts of Halesowen, only three miles from junction 3 of the M5 and 10 miles from Birmingham city centre. Our team of highly experienced consultants deliver a wide range of surgeries and treatments and some of our key specialties include Cosmetic, Hip and Knee, Spinal, Eye, Hernia, Foot and Ankle and Urology Services. We also have a dedicated Physiotherapy department which offers a comprehensive programme of treatments for patients and supports them with their rehabilitation process.

The hospital provides fantastic facilities for patients including two state-of-the-art operating theatres, an endoscopy theatre and a full diagnostic service on site. Patients who require overnight stays following surgery can also benefit from private en-suite rooms on the hospital Ward.  It is to see a further development and increase in facilities this year which will include an additional theatre and designated ambulatory unit as a minimum.

Main Responsibilities 

  • You need to ensure the safe care of the patient during the perioperative phase of their care. 
  • You will assemble, check and prepare the appropriate surgical instruments and consumables for a wide range of operative procedures incorporating various types of surgery. 
  • You need to coordinate the use of supplies and equipment during the operating list, ensuring the equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner. 
  • You must conduct mandatory patient checks including informed consent, patient identity and operative site prior to the start of procedure. 
  • Must conduct mandatory surgical checks prior to the start of the procedure, during and pre wound closure. 
  • You must monitor the patient’s conditions throughout the procedure, taking appropriate action to manage any arising complications through contingency planning. 
  • Communicate effectively with all other members of multi-disciplinary team involved in the care of the patient. 
  • Main Requirements 
  • NMC Registered 
  • Minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in theatre practice 
  • Evidence of clinical reasoning skills across varied patient case mix.
  • Highly organised with outstanding attention to detail and the ability to prioritise information and workload appropriately.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to build professional relationships. 
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
