Duties

  • The Team Leader will be responsible for the management of staff and resources within the recovery team. 
  • They will work with the Theatre Manager to ensure the provision of high quality, evidence-based patient centred care for patients and theatre users.
  • Practise complex skills autonomously and be an expert in the field of recovery.
  • Set, achieve, monitor and maintain standards of care ensuring safe practice and taking action if these fall below acceptable levels.
  • Act as a role model and resource both within and external to the organisation.
  • Promote excellence in clinical practice.
  • Effectively manage the recovery team as well as the equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the recovery area is fit for purpose
  • Ensure pre-operative checks are made on all equipment prior to accepting the patient into the department and prior to the administration of any anaesthetic or surgical procedure.
  • Understand and apply a holistic patient centred approach, identifying and taking account of specialist clinical need whilst patient is in the Theatre.
  • Ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to in relation to safeguards against wrong operations, and correct procedures are followed.
  • Respond to, record and report any adverse events or incidents relating to the intervention / treatment with an appropriate degree of urgency.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of compromised patients when in recovery.
  • To ensure that correct aseptic techniques and PPE are always used.
  • Ensure patients privacy and dignity
  • Demonstrate specimen management.
  • To administer medicines in accordance with NMC guidelines, Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepare appropriately for the care / intervention / treatment to be undertaken including the risks to be managed.
  • Correctly follow routine maintenance schedules and procedures for equipment.
  • Accurately test equipment and identify any deviations from required performance standards, together with their likely causes.
  • Clean and restore equipment and work areas, leaving them in a suitable condition for future use.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of drugs, partake in decision making regarding patient requirements.
  • Cover the out of hours on call phone according to the on-call rota.

 
Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse and/or Operating Department Practitioner. 
  • Extensive recovery experience at a senior practitioner level.
  • Experience in practice development.
  • Customer service.
  • Evidence of effective management. 
  • Stock control.
  • Experience within the private sector preferable but not essential.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • An interest in development and progression is encouraged and reinforced, offering the opportunity to complete the surgical first assist course and specialise within the surgical areas on offer. 
  • Our onsite education team will keep you up to date with BLS and ILS and you will be provided with your ALS training.
  • Registered Nurse with an anaesthetic qualification
  • Operating Department Practitioner with anaesthetic experience
  • Assist the Anaesthetist throughout the peri-operative phase of care and during the immediate post-operative phase of care as required.
  • Assist the anaesthetist in monitoring the patient’s condition throughout the procedure and continue during the immediate post-operative phase of care. Taking appropriate action to manage any arising complications through contingency planning.
  • Proactively monitor the patient’s level of discomfort/pain and take appropriate actions to ensure the patient is comfortable.
  • Administer drugs and fluids to the appropriate Aspen Healthcare policy
  • Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient
  • Monitor, order, receive and check stock items including consumables, equipment and drugs.
  • Ensure any accidents or complaints are fully documented and that the appropriate manager is informed
  • Complete all written documentation in a timely manner and to a legible standard.
  • Act as a role model.
  • Promote and ensure an environment conducive to the continuing prevention and control of infection for all staff, patients and visitors.
  • Be aware of and comply with all infection prevention and control policies and ensure best practice is maintained to ensure low infection rates.

  • Expert Scrub nurse with post qualification scrub experience in a range of surgical specialties. Experience in orthopaedic, ophthalmology and robotic procedures would be advantageous.

Duties

  • As a Senior Scrub Practitioner, you will deliver safe quality care for patients during their peri-operative phase of care.
  • The Advanced Practitioner will undertake clinical ongoing responsibility for the designated area in which they are allocated.
  • They will as required provide managerial accountability in the absence of the Team Leader under the supervision of the Clinical Manager.
