As Ward Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of a busy surgical ward. You will lead from the front combining clinical expertise with operational oversight to ensure every patient receives safe, efficient, and compassionate care.

This is a leadership role where your influence will be felt across patient outcomes, staff development, and service quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the smooth and effective daily operation of the ward

  • Manage patient flow, admissions, transfers, and discharges to support theatre efficiency

  • Lead on bed management and service coordination

  • Ensure high‑quality patient assessments, care planning, and risk management

  • Act as a visible clinical leader, supporting complex decision‑making

  • Manage staffing, rotas, skill mix, and absence management

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a multidisciplinary team

  • Build strong relationships with consultants, surgeons and anaesthetic teams

  • Identify opportunities to improve patient pathways and service delivery

  • Champion a culture of safety, learning and continuous improvement

The Ideal Candidate

Essential
  • Holds valid NMC registration

  • Has strong clinical experience within a surgical or acute ward setting

  • Demonstrates proven leadership or senior nurse experience

  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Thrives in fast‑paced, high‑standards environments

  • Is passionate about patient‑centred care

Desirable
  • Previous Ward Manager or Deputy Ward Manager experience

  • Experience within private healthcare
