As Ward Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of a busy surgical ward. You will lead from the front combining clinical expertise with operational oversight to ensure every patient receives safe, efficient, and compassionate care.
This is a leadership role where your influence will be felt across patient outcomes, staff development, and service quality.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the smooth and effective daily operation of the ward
Manage patient flow, admissions, transfers, and discharges to support theatre efficiency
Lead on bed management and service coordination
Ensure high‑quality patient assessments, care planning, and risk management
Act as a visible clinical leader, supporting complex decision‑making
Manage staffing, rotas, skill mix, and absence management
Lead, motivate, and develop a multidisciplinary team
Build strong relationships with consultants, surgeons and anaesthetic teams
Identify opportunities to improve patient pathways and service delivery
Champion a culture of safety, learning and continuous improvement

The Ideal Candidate
Essential
Holds valid NMC registration
Has strong clinical experience within a surgical or acute ward setting
Demonstrates proven leadership or senior nurse experience
Has excellent communication and organisational skills
Thrives in fast‑paced, high‑standards environments
Is passionate about patient‑centred care
Desirable
Previous Ward Manager or Deputy Ward Manager experience
Experience within private healthcare
