As a Ward Sister / Charge Nurse, you will be a key clinical leader supporting the Ward Manager in the day‑to‑day running of a busy surgical ward. You will be the driving force behind safe patient care, smooth ward operations and a motivated, high‑performing team.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Ward Manager in delivering efficient, safe, and high‑quality ward operations
Lead shifts, coordinate ward activity, and manage patient flow effectively
Take responsibility for patient safety, care quality, and clinical decision‑making
Deliver and oversee pre‑ and post‑operative care across multiple surgical specialties (cardiac, orthopaedics, colorectal, ENT, gynaecology, urology)
Act as a visible clinical role model, supporting and guiding junior staff
Champion a positive, collaborative and supportive ward culture
Work closely with leading consultants and multidisciplinary teams
Ensure every patient receives seamless, personalised care

The Ideal Candidate
Essential
Holds valid NMC registration
Has strong post‑registration experience within a surgical or acute ward
Demonstrates leadership capability at senior staff nurse/charge nurse level
Has excellent communication, decision‑making and organisational skills
Is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care
Desirable
Previous experience supporting ward management
Exposure to multiple surgical specialties
